Division as a Weapon: The Lies They Tell, The Hate They Create, and the Unity They Fear

Division is not an accident — it is their strategy. They divide us so we cannot unite against them.

They distract us with culture wars, pit us against each other with identity politics, and feed us narratives designed to turn neighbor against neighbor. Their goal is simple: Keep us divided, so they can stay in power.

The Lies They Tell

The powerful know that when the working people of this country stand together, their power is threatened. So they tell us lies — designed to turn us against each other, so we never turn against them.

  • The Neighbor Myth.
We are told that our neighbor is the problem — that the people in our community are to blame for our struggles. But the truth is that our real losses come from policies written for corporations and billionaires.
  • The Party Enemy.
We are told that the other political party is the enemy. Yet both Democrats and Republicans take money from the same corporations and pass laws that protect the same wealthy donors. Their real fear is not us fighting each other — it’s us uniting against them.
  • The Scarcity Lie.
We are told that there is not enough to go around — not enough jobs, not enough housing, not enough resources. But while working people are told to tighten their belts, CEOs collect record bonuses and corporations post record profits. In 2023 alone, U.S. corporations reported over $2.9 trillion in profits, while wages for the bottom half of workers barely moved.
  • The Bootstrap Myth.
We are told that if we just work harder, we will succeed — and if we fail, it’s our fault alone. But the truth is that millions of people work full-time jobs and still cannot afford housing, healthcare, or education. The problem is not effort — it’s a system rigged to benefit the few at the expense of the many.

The Hate They Create

Outrage is not just a byproduct of politics — it’s a business model. Fear, anger, and resentment are manufactured because they keep us divided and distracted.

  • Profits from Outrage.
Corporate media thrives on division, because fear and anger drive ratings, clicks, and profits. Headlines are designed to inflame, not inform, leaving the truth buried beneath noise and spectacle. Trust in the media has collapsed — with only about 31% of Americans saying they trust news outlets, down from nearly 70% in the 1970s.
  • Fear as a Weapon.
We are told to fear our neighbor, fear the poor, fear anyone who looks or votes differently. Manufactured fear blinds us to the real enemy: A system rigged against working people.
  • Division for Control.
Hate makes unity impossible — and that is the point. Every moment we spend fighting each other is a moment the powerful grow richer and more untouchable.
  • Culture Wars as Distraction.
While working families struggle with rising costs and stagnant wages, we are bombarded with endless battles over symbols, slogans, and social issues. These culture wars are designed to keep us enraged about each other while the wealthy quietly walk away with more of the nation’s wealth and power.

Hate does not spread by accident. It is cultivated, amplified, and sold back to us — because a divided people cannot rise together.

The Unity They Fear

If division is their greatest weapon, then unity is their greatest fear. They know that when working people come together — across race, across region, across party — their grip on power begins to crumble.

  • History Proves It.
Every major gain for ordinary Americans — from the 40-hour workweek to civil rights to Social Security and Medicare — came when people organized across differences and stood together against the elite.
  • Common Struggle, Common Power.
Whether it’s wages too low to live on, healthcare too expensive to afford, or housing too far out of reach, these struggles are shared by millions. What divides us is small compared to what unites us.
  • The Fear of Solidarity.
That is why they spend billions fueling division — because they know the truth: When we unite, we are unstoppable.
  • Power in Numbers.
The working class makes up the vast majority of this country. We build the economy, sustain industries, and drive the nation forward. If even a fraction of us united around shared demands, our numbers alone would outweigh the money and influence of the elites.

Unity is not naïve, it is revolutionary. It is the one force strong enough to shatter corruption, end exploitation, and reclaim democracy for the people. Division is their weapon — unity will be ours.

Choosing Unity

Division has kept us weak for too long. While we’ve been told to fear our neighbors, blame the poor, or hate the other party, the elites have grown richer, stronger, and more untouchable. But the truth is clear: What divides us is small compared to what unites us.

We are workers, parents, students, and neighbors. We build the homes, run the factories, drive the trucks, grow the food, and care for the sick. We share the same struggles — and together, we hold the same power.

Unity is not a dream, it is a choice. It is the choice to see through the lies, to reject the hate, and to stand together against those who profit from our division. Divided we have fallen — united, we will rise.
